Bože!
I’m All Verklempt, Tawlk Amongst Yourselves, I Give You A Topic . . . . .

Some of you know already I paint icons. I’m always on the look out for the unusual ones – one’s I’ve not seen before but grab me, move me, and make me think about our faith in new and different ways. I think this one qualifies!

It’s a 17th century Balkan icon – I’ve only ever seen one other example that is even vaguely similar (in the Eastern Tradition).

What do you think?

  • Fr. Joseph Augustine, AIHM

    +Alexis,

Very different. I love Byzantine and Easter iconography. As an Augustinian, I have never found one of Augustine that I really liked.

Perhaps our Order could commission you to write one of Augustine for us?

    Joseph Augustine

  • Alexis Tančibok

    Fr. Joseph,

Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, it really does fall into the category of “different” doesn’t it (grin).

To my knowledge there are no Eastern patterns for an icon of Augustine – he’s almost unknown in the East. Though given that he was a bishop it’s not impossible to make adjustments to existing patterns.

Have you tried Bridge Building icons? I think too that Monastary Icons, which, as I remember, has a selection of western saints might also be an option.
