His mind is hard, dark, and closed, nothing gets in, not even the voice of the God Om. He represents fundamentalism, hunger for power, and the worship of the institution all wrapped up into one. He is a murderous, destructive character. Everyone fears and loathes him - even Om wants to kill him. He is only interested in building his own power "in the name of" Om. Yeah, he’s the bad guy.
